The Rozvi rise is linked to the "wily and cunning Changamire Dombo" who began his attack on the Portuguese in June 1684 at the battle for Maungwe in the Manyika region of the Mutapa state. The battle continued all day with the Rozvi's bows and arrows against the Portuguese with their arquebuses fighting alongside their local auxiliaries.
